Mark,

With DHCP-Relay (or IP helper address in Cisco-speak) you can have different
VLAN's relay to different DHCP servers. My setup looks like this:

Each building on campus is a separate vlan. I have a Nortel Passport 8600 @
my network core which is doing DHCP-Relay. There's a relay entry for every
vlan. I have 2 sets of DHCP servers on 2 separate DHCP server vlans. We'll
say that vlan 2 (10.2.0.0/16) is where my "academic" dhcp servers are
located and vlan 4 (10.4.0.0/16) is where my "dorm" netreg dhcp servers are.
For academic vlan's my dhcp relay would send all dhcp requests to a server
on vlan 2. For dorm vlan's my dhcp relay would send all dhcp requests to a
server on vlan 4. Since dhcp-relay is unicast, you could have your netreg &
academic dhcp servers on the same vlan.

Hope this helps.

- Adam

We are looking into NetReg but I have a question:

We have every building as it's own VLAN. We use a Cisco 6509 (with a
router) in the core. Looking over the process for NetReg it looks like any
building that is going to have to register it's computers will exist only in
the NetReg DHCP, and not in my enterprise DHCP servers.

Is this a correct assumption?

Thanks
