Aaron,
What Win2k DHCP servers are you using? Currently, the Microsoft 2000 DHCP
server does not allow any sort of API call, or modification beyond the
standard config.
Cisco Network Registrar. (Cisco's Win2k DHCP server) can be modified to
perform the same function as NetReg, but implementation was quoted to me at
around $15,000. (Yes, that is a real quote)
NetReg was a 2 days dedicated working on it, and one spare PII-233 with
64Megs of RAM, and a steep learning curve.
Currently we use NetReg for our students, and Win NT 4.0 DHCP for our Admin.
Next week, the admin will migrate to a Win2k DHCP, so that it will perform
DDNS updates. (Step one of Setting up Active Directory for us)
All public ports, (Conference rooms, Labs) will be redirected to NetReg
Mike

Subject: NetReg: Question about NetReg
Hello --
I've been looking into NetReg for a few days, and I'm somewhat confused
by one thing:
Is NetReg designed to run on the general DHCP server? i.e., it uses
ISC DCHPD to pass out "bogus" leases that point to the broken DNS
server. Is there a mechanism that I'm missing, that passes the request
to a different DHCP server once the client has registered?
My institution has an investment in DHCP servers that run under Win 2K.
What I need to do is have something like NetReg answer and IF the
client has registered, pass their DHCP request to a "real" DHCP server.
Thanks,
Aaron Bennett
