Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong...but I'm fairly certain this is
correct. Only the localhost reads the /etc/hosts file. So, if you put
your mail server (and any other machine that NetReg may want to contact)
in /etc/hosts, it will know where to go. The information in /etc/hosts is
not passed on to the DNS clients.
If that information is not correct. Put the line
define(`SMART_HOST', `smtp:[w.x.y.z]')
in your sendmail.mc file (where w.x.y.z is the IP of your SMTP server).
Rebuild sendmail.cf and restart sendmail.
I just thought of a third option if you are using BIND 9. Create a view
for the localhost add the machines that NetReg contacts to that view.
I'm sure there are other options.
