I ran into a problem with getting the 'make' command to work in my install
of Apache on Debian. So, I went ahead with the Debian Apache-ssl and had to
run through the Netreg config files to point to where Debian installs Apache
and CGI but it works.

Subject: NetReg: Install of NetReg 1.3.rc2 with Apache 2.0 on Debian--Help
Starting Apache with SSL
Hi, All,
My colleague and I are using Patrick Jaques' excellent "Installing NetReg
v1.3rc2 HOWTO" (the Nov. 13, 2000 revision for Apache 2.0
http://www.netreg.org/contrib/NetReg-HowTo-A2.pdf) to install NetReg on a
Debian Linux box (running Woody/Stable, httpd 2.0.48, OpenSSL 0.9.6l).
We've breezed through half of the install, but we're stuck at the end of the
Apache configuration.
Patrick's HOWTO is written for RedHat, so we've hit a snag trying to get
Apache to start at boot time with SSL enabled. (We can start it
"manually.") We can't use the startup script that Patrick has kindly
provided because Debian does not use daemon to start servers, but instead
uses start-stop-daemon. (It also does not have /etc/init.d/functions, among
other things.)
We've tried to modify a known-working, non-SSL Apache startup script, but
scripts aren't one of our...err...strengths.
Has anyone invented this wheel already? Copies of working Debian startup
scripts are welcome!
If we cannot solve this problem, we may proceed with apache-ssl which
appears to use apache 1.3.29.
Thanks for reading.
