can it be done? yes. Is it a good idea? I don't think so. I think you
are allowing too much room for user error.
why do you need to capture first, last name, phone, building, etc here?
First I do not understand why you would need this data for registration;
second you should definitely have this info in some database somewhere
else...perhaps you can get an export of this data and put it in your own
read-only database for this purpose.
The point of netreg was to eliminate the possibility of human error by
not accepting any. Yes we authenticate the user but we never accept any
data (from a person). I would imagine you have the user's first and
last name, phone and location info from a more reliable source (does
your univ. publish a phone directory..try tapping that resource). The
user's platform (more specifically, their browser info is captured via
environment variables at time of posting the form).
What is to stop someone from filling in jibberish...or worse, plausible
jibberish. You must assume that your data is at best inaccurate.
