Mac's should work just fine with NetReg, they are able to get DNS and
Default Route information from DHCP.
I'm wondering if you're being confused into believing that the machine is
not getting this information because it doesn't fill it in in the boxes on
the network section of System Preferences.
If you want to prove to yourself whether this is the case or not, you
could use the terminal. On my mac, I find that information if I cat
/etc/resolv.conf
Also you should be able to use the nslookup command from the terminal. I
would expect that the netreg server would be mentioned as the Default
Server when you run nslookup.
Another possibility that I can think of would be that you have the
network set to use DHCP, but also (perhaps remaing from a previous
configuration) have a dns server entered in the dhcp server box. If you
put something in that box, that replaces the dns servers in the
/etc/resolv.conf file with those that you enter into that box, and ignores
the ones that it got from DHCP. For DHCP to configure the DNS information
properly, you need to have that box blank.
