Hello, thanks David.
Now that you said that it was a problem with the httpd.conf file I took a
look and found that my apache2 has the generic file not the NetReg file. I
re-ran the install_script and noticed that about four files were not copied
at the end with httpd.conf being one of them. The error I was getting was
that the files had been locally modified and would not be overwritten. I
renamed the current copies of the files and then deleted the originals to
get the script to copy the files. Everything seems to be working now. I
can log into the admin.cgi and index.cgi with a user from an FTP server I
have.
One question though, we don't have a central FTP, POP3 or IMAP server on
campus that all users would have accounts on. Is there a way to get NetReg2
to authenticate toward a RADIUS server?
I have to admit (and you can probably tell from my previous emails) that I
am definitely not a Linux person so I am very grateful for all the help that
you have given me.
Quinton

The error "symbolic link not allowed" means that your httpd.conf file for
your apache web server is wrong, and is missing "FollowSymLinks" on the
"Options" line of the "<Directory ...> section.
Since Netreg 2.0 installs it's own httpd.conf file which is specially
configured for it (and actually DOES have "FollowSymLinks" in the file),
I'm assuming then that either you entered the wrong path into the
instalation script (so it put the customised httpd.conf in the wrong place),
OR you didn't restart the web server after the install_script was run, so
it's still using the old configuration file.
I expect that the other errors are related to the same problem, however
"Can't locate Variables.pm in @INC" means exactly that. (ie it can't find
that file) It then lists all the directories it looked in for the
"Variables.pm" file. You should go and find out where your Variables.pm
actually is (it's installed by the install_script into your cgi-bin
directory - depending on where you instructed it to), and if it's not in one
of those directories, then there's a problem in your instalation somewhere.
You can always re-run the install_script, and change any/all of your answers
(it will remember your previous answers for you, whether they are right or
not, so be careful to check).
David.
