Hi,
First, a great big "thank-you" to everyone who has worked to make NetReg
what it is. Peter, we'll get you a bright-orange Clemson shirt just as
soon as I can get down to the store.
At Clemson University, we have recently started using NetReg in our dorms
and our wireless network. We are currently up to about 4100 registered
clients, and counting ... fast!
Things are going remarkably well, but we have run into a couple of
problems:
+ Spaces at the end of a userid. Apparently, a user will enter their
userid with a space at the end. The POP server doesn't care, but
when the host entry gets written, it ends up with "host joe -1 .."
and dhcpd isn't happy about that. I fixed this with a s/\ //g.
+ Shorter userids that match part of a longer userid. For example,
things get discombobulated when a user "mickey" registers, and then
later "ckey" registers. When "ckey" goes to register another
machine, the serial gets discombobulated, and dhcpd complains
about duplicate host entries.
I haven't had a chance to figure out something for the second problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks again for netreg.
Take care,
Dan
