NetReg: register.cgi

I noticed something about netreg the other day. when you register your mac
address via register.cgi, it grabs your mac address and your Old ip address
(the one from the unknown clients pool). Is this correct? If so, what use
is that. It seems like it would be better to try and get the new ip address.

Any thoughts?
