Here at Wheaton we are looking to implement NetReg. Our current setup is as follows:
Static IP addresses distributed via DHCP, lease times from 1 to 7 days, depending on subnet
Single DHCP server for all of campus, with mirrored info on fail-over machine
-no purely dynamic addressing on our network.
2200 line drops for students, 775 currently in use
2nd year of ResNet
Manual registration/installation process currently
6-8 RCC employees (RCC/Student = 1/110, lower than desired)
In many ways, the implementation of a system like NetReg will significantly reduce our workload, and allow us to focus more on the definite problems that crop up.
One of the issues, however, is how to make the DHCP setup used for NetReg mesh (and not interfere) with the DHCP server serving the rest of campus. Will this require isolating (logically or physically) the resnet subnets from the existing network with the DHCP server or is there a way to configure DHCP relay to handle it? Currently a router separates our users from the DHCP server.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
